Inyathi Park News November 2021

At the end of November, a new variant of Covid 19 was identified in South Africa. The variant was named Omicron. All of a sudden, countries announced a travel on South Africa en other regions in southern Africa.

  1. Travel to the USA

The USA placed a travel ban on visitors from South Africa with effect from 29 November 2021, unless they are USA citizens or government officials. Please see the detail here.

This is important information for professional hunters that market hunting opportunities at the major shows in US early in 2022. Watch the news for further developments. Many people have already book flights and paid for show attendance.

  1. Covid-19

It is said that the Omicron variant of Covid 19 is very contagious, but it is too soon to predict the impact it might have. Please take care.

We remind branches and members that participate in SA Hunters’ activities to follow the proper protocol. It has been sent to branch management committees a long time ago. However, request it from the office should you need a copy.

  1. IGRF World Championship

Last week, shottists that participate in the IGRF shooting disciplines received the good news that the IGRF World Championship will be held in Phoenix, England in May 2022. However, a few days later the news of the Omicron variant broke and Britain closed its borders for visitors from South Africa. Most flights were also cancelled. It makes it very difficult to plan for any participation. Only time will tell how circumstances might change.

  1. Proposed amendments to the Firearms Control Act r

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for the Police referred the proposed amendments to the Firearms Control Act back to the Police. It is also not on the agenda of the Portfolio Committee. This proves that the public can influence legislation.

SA Hunters thank all its members, supporters and the public that submitted comment on the proposed amendments. More than 118 000 comments were received. It shows that politicians do pay attention to negative comments.

  1. Role of the Board

During the Board meeting on 25 November 2021, each of the elected board members agreed to provide support to three regions. Regional coordinators and branch chairpersons in the various regions can expect a call or an e-mail from a board member.

The responsibilities have been allocated as follows:

André van Heerden                Western Cape, Northern Cape, South-eastern Cape

Kobus Maree                          Free State, KwaZulu Natal, Drakensberg Eastern Cape

Basie Berg                              Vaalrivier, Stellaland, Kalahari Bosveld

Danie Momberg                      Gauteng South-East, Gauteng South-West, Gauteng- North

Richard Sowry                        Mpumalanga South, Mpumalanga- North, Limpopo

  1. Hand delivery of magazines

The closing of yet more post offices because they cannot pay the rent, has created a massive problem with the delivery of magazines to members.

  • Phoning Michel Schoeman at (012) 8089300 or sending an e-mail to michel@sahunt.co.za
  • Changing the preference on your member profile on the SA Hunters website or using the SA Hunters App.

Remember to check that your residential address is correct.

This is the last opportunity in 2021 to wish our members a well-deserved rest. 2020 and 2021 will be remembered as two very difficult and uncertain years in which Covid 19 affected all or lives in one way or another.

To those whose friends or family members passed, our sincere condolences. May you find comfort in your faith. We do not forget so easily, but with time we learn to live without those loved ones.

I wish you a peaceful and joyous Christmas and best wishes for 2022.

Kind regards

Fred Camphor
