Phototips – How to capture High contrast images

  • Look for the sun late afternoon when the sun is almost on the horizon and place your subject right against the light.
  • Set the maximum depth of field (small numbers), that will cause the background to blur, but will let lots of light in.
  • Then reduce the light with a fast shutter speed, and it will also freeze a moving subject.
  • Keep the light sensitivity (ISO) low to reduce noise and not absorb extra light (auto ISO will not work here).

These steps will produce a high contrast image with lots of emotion and drama.
